History
The Department of Turkish Language and Literature as one of the founding departments was opened in accordance with the 131st Institutions Organization Law, Some Laws, and Some Delegated Legislations accepted in Grand National Assembly of Turkey on 14.07.2010 and published on Official Gazette of the Republic of Turkey dated 21.07.2010 and numbered 27648. In 2014, it completed its departmental organization and it started to admit students since 2014-2015 Academic Year. Article of the Law numbered 6005 on Making Changes on Higher Education
Qualification Awarded
This department is subject to the first stage degree system of 240 ECTS credits in Turkish Language and Literature Science in higher education. When the program is successfully completed and program qualifications are provided, the degree of "Turkologist" in the field of Turkish Language and Literature and the degree of Undergraduate degree is obtained.

Specific Admission Requirements
Acceptance and registration conditions for Turkish Language and Literature Department: 1) Students are placed in the program according to the results of YKS exam. 2) The following conditions are required for enrollment at the university: a) Final registration procedures are made between the dates determined by the Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM). Candidates who do not complete the registration process between the dates determined by OSYM lose their registration rights. b) Be a graduate of secondary school or vocational school; diploma equivalence for graduates of foreign secondary schools is to be approved by the Ministry of National Education. c) As a result of placement made by Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), in order to gain the right to enroll in the faculties / colleges of the University in that school year or to have the puana and conditions valid for that school year in the units to be taken with the pre-registration system, d) In the examination guide prepared by ÖSYM, the documents specified for enrollment to the University are provided. For foreign students, the necessary documents required by the Department of Student Affairs are provided.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council. Also successful vocational school graduates to continue their education to obtain Bachelor’s degrees if they are successful in the selection and the placement examination (DGS, i.e. vertical transfer examination) are admitted.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).
Profile of The Programme
There are four departments in the department: New Turkish Literature, Old Turkish Literature, Turkish Language and Turkish Folk Literature. The main objective of the Turkish Language and Literature section is; human centered, participant who has the knowledge and ability to devote himself to the profession of society and humanity with the knowledge and experience of all the powers and responsibilities provided by laws as a graduate of Turkish Language and Literature with the knowledge and skill of defining, explaining, applying, deciding and teaching basic principles of literature science is to educate contemporary educators and researchers who are impartial, unbiased, critical, originally thinking, studying and investigating ethical values and fundamental rights and freedoms.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Our graduates are able to teach in private schools in secondary schools and high schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. Apart from that, they can continue their academic life as a faculty member or they can work as Turkish language instructors in universities. They can also take part in archives in the Ministry of Culture, TRT, media, publishing houses, various ministries, educational and cultural institutions abroad.

Graduation Requirements
Normal duration is 4 years. Students must take and pass all necessary courses totaling 168 credits and reach a minimum (grade point average) of 2,0 before him/her can graduate.

Facilities
Every semester, The Department of Turkish Language and Literature both hosting experts from different universities and other organizations and using the self-capacity of the university organizes conferences, seminars, and panels. Besides, our students can benefit from different social, cultural, and sport events held by our university. In addition, they have the opportunities to attend other social and sport activities in different branches of winter sports as Erzurum is a center of winter sports.

1 To be able to read and understand the works of the Ottoman period which have an important place in Turkish literature and Turkish history
2 To recognize Arabic and Persian words in basic level
3 To be able to distinguish Turkish literature from period to period
4 To have a knowledge Sufi philosophy, Sufi literature and Sufi symbolism
5 To be able to know Classical Turkish Literature with its periods and works
6 To be able to learn the grammatical features, alphabets, vocabulary of historical Turkish dialects
7 To be able to read the texts of Turkish dialects, to transcribe the texts of historical Turkish dialects, to transfer these texts to Turkish Grammer and to gain linguistic examination ability
8 To be able to know the periods of Modern Turkish Literature, characteristics of this period, literary movements, personalities and works and to learn them by using theories and methods of literature
9 To be able to follow the international literature related to the field and to have the necessary language knowledge in terms of communicating
10 Having the ability to comprehend basic language and literature knowledge
11 To read and understand Ottoman Turkish texts
12 Having the ability to access and use related resources
13 Be able to look at events from different perspectives with creative and consistent thinking power by making symbolic and abstract thinking habit
