Graduate School of Social Sciences - Economics

History
Department of Economics, within the Institute of Social Sciences, started its Ph.D. program in the academic year 2012-2013.
Qualification Awarded
Graduates who successfully complete the program will be awarded a Ph.D. Degree.

Specific Admission Requirements
Candidates must be met the conditions that graduating from Faculties of Economics, Business Administrations, Political Science or Economics and Administrative Sciences, having at least 70 points in equally-weighted type from Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam and at least 55 points from foreign language exam made by Turkish Republic Student Selection and Placement Center or equivalent exams, providing conditions determined by the Institute of Social Sciences and the Erzurum Technical University Senate.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The rules for the recognition of prior learning are described in Articles 10, 13 and 14 of the Erzurum Technical University Post-graduate Education and Examinations Regulation.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students who are enrolled in this program are required to complete at least 240 ECTS credits in total including at least 8 courses with a minimum 24 credits, specialization courses, Ph.D. proficiency exam and thesis studies. Successful completion of all the courses available in the program, having a GPA of at least 3.00 out of 4.00 and successfully completing the thesis are necessary conditions for graduation.
Profile of The Programme
The aim of the program is to provide students the ability of making independent research at advanced level in the field of economics, interpreting the scientific events with a broad and deep perspective and determining the steps necessary to achieve new synthesis.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates with a strong knowledge in the fields of economics that they specialize will be able to work in the public or private sector or continue their research as academicians.
Access to Further Studies
The Ph.D. program is the highest degree so graduates who have successfully completed the Ph.D. program may apply for an academic position in the same or similar areas in national or international higher education institutions or for an expert position in the research centers of public institutions.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
The assessment and evaluation of the exams are based on Articles 20 and 34 of the Erzurum Technical University Post-graduate Education and Examination Regulations.
Graduation Requirements
In order to ensure the graduation conditions, the students have to fulfill the conditions stated in Articles 37 and 38 of the Erzurum Technical University Post-Graduate Education and Examination Regulations.

Facilities
The department provides facilities such as symposium, conferences, panels through which students have a chance to put their theoretical knowledge into practice. The department has also sufficient physical facilities such as library, entrepreneurship laboratory and classes supported by technological equipment. We are also part of different student exchange programmes (Erasmus+, PAX, Mevlana and Farabi) through which students might visit other national or international universities during their studentship. Additionally, students might benefit from social and sportive activities (e.g. football, basketball, ice hockey, folk dancing etc.) and student clubs.


Program Outputs

Faculty Working Mode
1 Students acquire skills that can enable them in advanced level calculations, verbal/written communication, problem solving and utilization/creation of new technics/Technologies.
2 Students learn the operation of statistical tools/software and make use of them in both academic domains to solve an original research question and in private sector environment to create effective and efficient solutions.
3 Students can compare and contrast different concepts/methodologies of economics along with other disciplines in an interdisciplinary way to achieve creative/original analysis, synthesis and solutions.
4 By using tools and concepts both from economics and other disciplines student can perform scientific and critical analysis.
5 Students can comprehend the role of economic actors(Government, household and private sector) in economic activities and appraise them from a critical perspective.
6 Students learn to investigate original topics and carry out critical analysis in a scientifically ethical way. By doing so students achieve the skills required to publish scientific articles in national or peer-reviewed international journals.
7 Students learn to beware their academic needs and how to meet those needs through verbal, written and Professional networks.
8 Students not only obtain deep understanding of economic theory, economic policy and international economics which is necessary for economist/researcher positions both in public and private sector, but also can interpret and make use of the theoretical knowledge in real life.
9 Students internalize importance of professional and ethical values together with rationalist and scientific mindset in scientific world. Moreover, students can teach and inspect those values.

11 Students can advance and deepen the up-to-date knowledge in literature, as well as learning to create original definitions in science.In doing so students learn to develop an appropriate research question and also solving it.
12 Students can advance the readily available knowledge and contribute to science with original thought and studies.
