Faculty of Letters - History

History
History Department, as a one founder departments of Faculty of Letter has been approved and founded according to following law; Turkish Grand National Assembly on 14.07.2010 and published in the Official Gazette dated 21.07.2010 numbered 27648 and the amendment of the Constitutional Law on Higher Education Institutions. In 2013 internal organization was completed. History Department started education in the academic year of 2013-2014.
Qualification Awarded
History department is affiliated to higher educations the first stage degree system 240 ECTS. When the program is successfully completed and the program qualifications are provided, the student graduate as title of "Historian" and Undergraduate degree in the History.

Specific Admission Requirements
Acceptance and registration requirements for the Department of History: 1) Students are placed to the department according to the results of YGS and LYS exam TS-3 points. 2) The following conditions are required for register to the university; a) Registration to the University is must be between the dates determined by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Candidates who do not complete the registration between the dates determined by ÖSYM lose their registration rights. b) To be a graduate of secondary education or Vocational school; Diplomas equivalence for graduates of foreign secondary schools must be approved by the Ministry of National Education. c) As a result of the placement of Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), students must be earn the right to register to the faculty d) Matriculation documents determined in the exam guide prepared by ÖSYM and for foreign students determined by the Student Administration Office of university.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The recognition of the student’s previous formal education in the Turkish Higher Education Institutions and are determined by the Higher Education Council’s; "REGULATION ON TRANSFER AMONG ASSOCIATE AND UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMS, DOUBLE MAJOR, AND SUBSPECIALTY AND THE PRINCIPALS OF CREDIT TRANSFER AMONG INSTITUTIONS IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS" rules are applied.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Successful completion of all of the courses available in the program (total 240 ECTS) and at least 2.00 out of 4.00 GPA is a necessary qualification for graduation. For each course taken by the students, one of the letter grades is given at the end of the necessary examinations with consider distribution of the grades and the class average. Grade of letters is as follows: AA 4,00 BA 3,50 BB 3,00 CB 2,50 CC 2,00 DC 1,50 DD 1,00 FF 0,00 M Exempt G Pass Z Unattended. The duration of education is 4 years / 8 semesters. Students are required to complete a 4-year program, at the latest 7 years (14 semesters). The total graduation credits are minimum 128, maximum 160 credit for undergraduate programs, except for the courses in Law no. 2547-5-i.
Profile of The Programme
There are five major scientific disciplines in the department: Ancient History, Medieval History, New Age, Modern Age and History of Republic. The main objective of History Department is; train modern and democratic researchers who can adopt a scientific approach to problems and changes, are sensitive to the problems of Turkey and the world and can find solutions for them, can adapt themselves to the changing conditions, can synthesize different disciplines, have future plans, are sensitive to culture, art, and literature, regards diversity as richness, have the skills of running cooperative studies, leadership, and communication, have a principle of life-long learning, think positive and creatively, are at peace with themselves and others, can effectively express themselves, use their knowledge and experience for the benefit of the society and human beings, have the senses of responsibility and dedication to profession, can think humanistic, participative, objective, unbiased, and critical, and obey the ethical norms and basic rights and freedoms in their research and studies.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduated students are able to teach in private schools in secondary schools and high schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. They can also continue their academic career as a faculty member or they can work as Atatürk Principles and Revolution History Instructor in universities. They can also be employed in the Ministry of Culture, in the TRT, in the press, in publishing houses, in various ministries, in foreign educational and cultural institutions.
Access to Further Studies
Graduates who have successfully completed their undergraduate education can study at the postgraduate programs if they have a valid grade from ALES and have sufficient knowledge of foreign languages.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Students of the department must register at classes in the beginning of the semester and must have attend at least 70% of the courses in order to take the final exam. Students are required to take at least one midterm and one final examination for each course. The achievement grade is 40% for the midterm exam and 60% for the final exam. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. The student who has taken one of the letter grades (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB), (CC) successful and (DC) and (DD) are conditionally successful grades. In order to consider (DC) and (DD) grades successful, GPA must be at least 2.00.
Graduation Requirements
The duration of education is 4 years / 8 semesters. Students must complete a 4-year program in 7 years (14 semesters), in order to graduate from the undergraduate program, they must complete total 240 ECTS and a GPA must be 2,00 or higher. The total graduation credits are at least 128 and maximum 160 credit for undergraduate programs, except for the courses in item 5-i of Law No. 2547. Students who successfully complete all the courses in the program and obtain GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 are awarded a Bachelor's Degree in the field of History.

Facilities
History Department continuing education with four academic members and five research assistants and fully equipped classrooms that meets today’s standards. In addition to this, we invite specialists from different universities and institutions in each academic year and organize conferences, seminars and panel activities on different topics. Students can benefit from the Central Library, which has a capacity of 50,000 books in order to increase knowledge, experience and opinions. In addition, our students can benefit from the different social, cultural and sporting events that our university has organized. In addition, since Erzurum is a winter sports center, there are also possibilities of social and sports activities in different branches related to winter sports.
